A Day at Mettle Fitness
When clients get to the gym they will start off by warming up with a band and foam roll. There are 10 band exercises that take about 15 minutes to do. Some of the exercises include: band walks, hip bridges, one-leg dead lift, and side walks. We feel like it is very important to warm up properly to help keep the athletes safe from injury. I think when choosing a gym, the atmosphere of the gym is extremely important. Mettle Strength and Fitness provides a competitive, fun atmosphere where athletes are pushed to take their games to the next level. An athlete who is in elite shape is not only going to perform better, they are also less likely to get injured. Here at Mettle Fitness we feel like it is important for potential customers to get a feel for what a normal day would be like!
Each day is set up into five different sections: warm-up, acceleration phase, movement, strength, and conditioning phase. This is set up to ensure that athletes are hitting every aspect if their bodies to become a stronger, faster, more explosive athlete.
An acceleration phase would be lifts like hang cleans, and single leg bridges where we are getting the hips warmed up and working on the power of our athletes. A lot of times this will last about 15-20 minutes and will start to get the athletes sweating.
After acceleration we move into the movement section where members work on their footwork and first three steps, which is so vital for athletes to be successful. Some exercises in this category would be ladder drills and sled drags. We push our athletes to get out of their comfort zone and perfect each drill in place.
We then follow up with our strength phase where we lift weights. It is usually six exercises total. We keep track of the weight you use so that players can see their progression throughout summer. Some popular exercises we do are bench press, single leg squats, and the infamous turkish get up. Each workout is hockey specific and very challenging.
The final part of the day is the much dreaded conditioning. Players will be push to their limit in order to build endurance. Hockey is a very high paced sport so conditioning is a vital part of their preparation. Some popular exercises for this would include, sled push suicides and shuttle runs.
As you can see each day is very demanding and will push you to your breaking point at times, but if you are willing to commit to our program four times a week, you will take your game to your next level. Do you have what it takes to become a mettlehead?
